It was a disappointing trip to Columbus for Troup High’s basketball teams.

Troup’s boys’ team came up on the short end of a 78-70 decision, while Troup’s girls lost 65-58.

In the boys’ game, the Tigers were trying to maintain their hold on second place in the region, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Senior Jonathan Boswell had a huge night with 30 points, but Carver was too strong.

Troup beat Carver 62-61 on Jan. 9, but Carver played that night without Corey Crawford, who was on a recruiting trip for football.

Troup was up by two at the half, but Carver controlled the action in the second half.

With the loss, the Tigers are 5-4 in Region 2-AAA, and they fell a game behind Shaw (6-3), which beat Columbus Friday night.

In Friday’s girls’ game, the Lady Tigers were ahead 11-6 after the first quarter, but Carver rallied to take a 23-22 lead at the half.

Carver extended its lead to 39-34 through three periods, and it hung on for the win.

Point guard Tanisha Jackson led Troup with 23 points, while Ashley Thornton scored 22.

The Lady Tigers, who lost their first six region games before beating Columbus Tuesday, were hoping to win two straight games for the first time since December.

Troup’s teams are off until Friday when they host Shaw.

Shaw won the boys’ and girls’ games in the previous meeting.
