With three wrestlers winning individual championships, the Callaway Cavaliers finished third at the Area 5-AA tournament on Saturday at Pike County.
Nine Cavaliers finished in the top four in their respective weight class to advance to next weekend’s state sectionals, and Brandon Hontz, Zach McIntyre and Ryan Kiss each won area titles.
Golden Sutton earned a second-place finish, while Clayton Vaught and Jasper Wood were third.
Dustin Vaught, Josh Yaughn and Matthew Bucheger were fourth.
“They all did real well,” Callaway coach J.J .Wahl said. “They’re all excited about going to sectionals. Some of them have a great chance to place (at state).”
Hontz, McIntyre and Kiss have been the team’s top wrestlers all season.
Hontz and McIntyre have each won six tournament titles, while Kiss leads the team in victories.
