Shoplifter accidentally cuts self with stolen knife

Wal-Mart employees at 803 New Franklin Road saw a man use a knife that he had just stolen to cut a cable holding a video camera in its package.

When confronted, the man accidentally cut one of his fingers before fleeing without the camera. An employee had grabbed his jacket when he ran, attempting to stop him.

Blood found on the jacket will be submitted for DNA testing, police said.

Woman beaten, held at residence

A man beat and held a women against her will in his Lee’s Crossing Apartments residence at 119 Old Airport Road on Thursday night. The man fled in his vehicle before police arrived.

Drugs found

Several men fled from police during a patrol in the 1000 block of Whitesville Road near Benjamin Harvey Hill Homes on Thursday night.

Police said one of the suspects, Reginald Saffold, 19, of Union Court ran into the 900 block of Whitesville Road before dropping to the ground with his hands behind his back. Police found a small plastic bag in the man’s jacket containing marijuana and a small piece of plastic wrapped around several pieces of cocaine.

Saffold was charged with possession and sale of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana. No other suspects were caught.

Thefts

An Apple iphone valued at $500 was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Baldwin Park Drive.

A portable air-tank valued at more than $500 was stolen from a residence in the 1000 block of New Franklin Road.

Arrest

Desi Cunningham, 32, of Everette Street and Alvin Williams, 28, of Burkes Chapel Road were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
