Crews work to remove a tanker car which jumped the tracks this morning.
CSX Transportation was investigating the cause of a train derailment on Fulton Street in front of the former Dunson Mill in LaGrange.

Company spokesman Gary Sease said five of the nine locomotives derailed about 2 a.m. Wednesday, along with an empty tanker car that had last been carrying molasses.

He said 50 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from one of the locomotives. LaGrange firefighters contained the spill to the track’s right of way and released the scene to CSX at 9:25 a.m. The company’s hazardous materials and remediation team cleaned up the spill.

The 88-car train was traveling from Birmingham, Ala., to Waycross when the accident occurred.

Trains were running again on one of the two tracks wednesday morning and the other track was expected to be open soon afterward, Sease said.
