LaGrange-bred rock band After Edmund is gearing up for its first local concert since its 2009 Grammy nomination. And the group is looking forward to Saturday’s homecoming.

“The show is all about community for us,” said lead singer Mitch Parks. “We travel the United States, Canada and periodically Europe, earned a Grammy nod, a Dove nod, play on TV and radio, meanwhile rarely playing in our hometown.

“The idea for the show literally came about because of everyone we know asking us when we are going to play in LaGrange. We’d bump into people at Walmart, Moe’s, Fat Daddy’s or Pizza Villa, and they’d ask about the band and when they can come rock with us in LaGrange. So, we said, ‘Why don’t we just do a show in February between tours?’ “

The four-man band is composed of LaGrange College alumni Parks and Ben Hosey, along with Matt McFadden and Yates.

The band recently received a Dove Award nomination for best new contemporary Christian band. And the group earned a Grammy nod for its debut album, “Hello,” nominated in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category. Termed a “knockout, accomplished debut” by CCM magazine, the release earned the group quick recognition - and a long listing of touring dates.

Now between tours, they’re anticipating a little LaGrange nostalgia, Parks said.

“This idea sparks memories of our development as a band: relentless practices in the office space we rented across from Hoofers for years, playing at the Chili Cook-Off on Lafayette Square, the Special Olympics, pretty much anywhere people would let us and, of course, going to Waffle House three nights a week after seemingly endless band practices,” he said.

The band performed recently at Springwood School in Lanett, Ala., for a “Wildcat Worship” assembly, at which fourth- through 12th -graders meet, pray together and have a time of worship.

Saturday’s concert will be the group’s first performance in LaGrange since the summer of 2008.

The concert is from 7 to 10 p.m. at Troup High School at 1920 Hamilton Road, with doors opening at 6. Tickets are $5 in advance through http://tickets.afteredmund.com. Admission at the door is $7.

Opening bands are Man Made Sea and Search For Atlas, winners of a battle of the bands at Callaway Park Church.
