Pair sentenced for entering autos
A man who pleaded guilty to 27 counts of entering an auto was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday in Troup Superior Court.
Michael Deandre Avery, 27, of Atlanta broke into vehicles during March through June of last year at boat-launching ramps at West Point Lake, as well as Cracker Barrel and other places in LaGrange.
His girlfriend, Jacqueline Denise Benda, 26, of Atlanta pleaded guilty to five counts of entering an auto. She was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison, four years’ probation and a $500 fine.
Guns, wallets, credit cards, GPS systems, MP3 players and other items were taken in the break-ins, said Assistant District Attorney William Hocutt IV, adding, “If there was anything loose and of value, they would swipe it.”
“The sheriff’s office did a great job of setting up surveillance cameras at the lake and they captured one of the break-ins,” Hocutt said.
He said the video at Yellow Jacket Access shows a woman driving a turquoise Ford Taurus. A man gets out of the car and goes to another vehicle, then comes back with items he didn’t have before.
A lookout was posted on the Taurus, and Benda was arrested. Avery later was arrested in Atlanta, where he received a three-year prison term for entering autos.
