At 4:37 Sunday afternoon an alarm triggered a report of a burglary in progress - at a burglar and security alarm business.
“They didn’t get anything,” said Don Murray, owner of A World of Security in West Point. “They broke a window on a sun porch and reached in and opened the door. The alarm went off and ran them off.”
The attempted entry took place in a house next to the office but owned by the business.
“It’s a completely furnished house that we call ‘The Cottage.’ We have rented it and we’ve used it as a guest house,” said Murray, who opened the business just off U.S. 29 in 1972.
“Criminals are getting desperate. This was broad daylight,” he said. “The system was connected to the police station, and they responded. We have the system connected to a cell line, so they can’t even cut the phone line to keep the call from going through.
“They broke the window, but they didn’t take anything, so the alarm system worked.”
