Police said Darius Magby, 19, and Calderon Dunson, 23, were seen in a parked car between two Malibu Drives houses about 10 a.m. Tuesday. They allegedly got out of the vehicle carrying two bags and items linked to committing a burglary.
Officers set up a perimeter around the area and saw the two coming out of the woods between Malibu Drive and South Chilton Crescent. They were allegedly found in possession of tools associated with burglaries and other thefts and were identified as the two seen leaving Malibu Drive.
An investigation led to the nine counts of burglary placed on the two. Magby and Dunson were also charged with possession of burglary tools, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana and loitering.
More charges could be filed as the investigation continues, police said.
Damage
— Three residences were damaged in the 300 block of Mooty Bridge Road. One had a pane of glass valued at $400 broken, and the other two with broken window panes and fire extinguishers sprayed inside them with damage estimated at $225.
— Someone struck a vehicle in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot at 111 Hoffman Drive and fled, causing more than $500 damage.
— A vandal attempted to force open the front door of a vehicle at Amberwood Apartments at 815 N. Greenwood St., causing less than $500 damage.
Fires
— A water heater fire caused about $5,000 in damage to 142 Stewart Road about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. The fire caused smoke damage in the residence and heat damage in the utility room where the water heater was located.
— An office caught fire in Park Meadow Apartments at 707 E. Boyd Road in Hogansville caused about $7,000 in property and content damage.
Bullet hits fire station
Troup County firefighters at the station on 5605 Roanoke Road reported people shooting guns in the area and a bullet hitting the fire station.
Thefts, burglaries
— A Brownwood Avenue resident said he let another man borrow his cell phone while he was at Chalk It Up pool hall at 1872 Vernon Road, and the man left the business with his phone, which is worth $400.
— A Bartley Road woman whose house had burned down said someone took a $375 stainless steel wood stove from the house.
— A representative of Friendship Baptist Church said a burglar broke in the building at 585 Gabbettville Road and took $1,000 in items.
— A Robertson Road resident reported the theft of four tires, rims and a car battery from his carport.
— A LaGrange woman said a thief broke into her car while it was parked on West Point Road and took her purse and other items.
— About $4,850 of miscellaneous items were stolen from a residence in the 3400 block of Ga. 54 in Hogansville.
— A 54-inch Toshiba flat-screen TV, a Nintendo Wii and various accessories, with a total value of $2,910, were stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Fendig Street.
— Two Xbox 360s, several games and peripherals for the systems, with a total value of $1,090, were stolen from a residence in the 900 block of Houston Street.
— More than $1,000 worth of various electronics, clothes and perfume was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Harwell Avenue.
— Two men and a woman stole seven AT&T GoPhones valued at $651 from Walmart at 803 New Franklin Road.
— A Samsung Rogue cell phone valued at $305 was taken from a desk in Callaway High School at 221 Whitfield Road.
— About $155 was stolen from a dresser in the 400 block of Niles Street.
— A cell phone, $100 and various identifications, with a total value of $135, were taken from a vehicle in the Scents Unlimited parking lot at 704 Hamilton Road.
