Ms. Henderson, a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, was born October 30, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Henderson and Charlotte Jeter Henderson. Growing up with her older siblings, John and Gracie, in a house that was always filled with visiting relatives, Lillian began her lifelong appreciation of family and friends. She graduated from Atlantic City High School and Wilberforce University in Xenia, Ohio. While at Wilberforce, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She did further study toward the Masters Degree at Columbia University in New York and studied the Hebrew language at universities in New York and Chicago. Lillian served the City of New York for more the 30 years in the Department of Social Services and as executive director for a homeless shelter. In addition to New York, Lillian lived in Richmond, Va.; Augusta, Ga.; Newnan, Ga.; and ultimately LaGrange. She also travelled extensively throughout Israel, Mexico, Africa and Europe.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, John “Dickie” Henderson; her nieces, Joanne (Ellis) Cowart, Patricia McCreary and Carole (William) Bates; her nephews, Arthur (Sabrina) Henderson and Stanley Hall; many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She especially leaves a good friend, Brenda Spratling and her family who cared for her until her death.
