The fabled long-eared rabbit is going to have to live up to its reputation of being “quick like a bunny” to make it to the many Easter egg hunts scheduled before the holiday.

Festivities kick off this weekend in LaGrange, West Point and Pine Mountain with other hunts planned in time for Easter on April 4.

Here is a rundown of some of the hunts planned:

— 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at West Point Depot. Refuge Point Church was asked to host the city’s annual Easter Egg Block Party. Along with the egg hunt, and appearance by the Easter Bunny, the fire department will show off its new truck and there will be free food and drinks, inflatables, live music and face painting.

— The Junior Women’s Club hosts its annual hunt from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the pavilion at the corner of Dallis Street and Forrest Avenue. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance and there will be light refreshments and other treats. Admission is $5 per child or a donation of two books to the Certified Literate Community Program. In case of rain, the hunt will be in the gym at LaGrange Academy on Vernon Road. Call (706) 443-4202 for information on this hunt.

— Pine Mountain’s annual hunt will be at 4 p.m. Saturday behind the post office. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be available.

— Troup County Parks and Recreation will hold the department’s 31st annual hunt April 3 at Shuford Fields. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the hunt begins at 11 a.m. There will be more than 20 prizes in each age division and hundreds of eggs to collect. Age divisions include 2 and younger with a parent, and ages 3 and 4, 5 through 7 and 8 through 10 without a parent. Each participant will receive a bag filled with a coloring book and crayons.

— The Army Corps of Engineers will partner with the Chambers County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Department for the annual hunt at Rocky Point Park at 2 p.m. April 3.

n Hogansville police are sponsoring the city’s annual hunt at 10 a.m. April 3 at Johnson Street Park. The hunt is for children ages 12 and younger, and children must take their own baskets to collect eggs.
