COLUMBUS - The Troup Tigers fell into a 5-0 hole after two innings, and they were unable to recover on the way to an 8-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Devils on Wednesday in a Region 2-AAA game.
The Tigers had eight hits, with Eric Escobedo delivering a home run, but they also left the bases loaded twice, and they left runners on second and third in another inning.
“We had our chances,” Troup coach Craig Garner said. “We had several opportunities where a big hit here or there, and we could have got back into it.”
Garner said some shaky defense helped the Blue Devils score three runs in the first inning and two more in the second.
“We didn’t play as good defensively as we did against Northside (a 5-1 win on Monday),” Garner said. “We had some errors, and we had a couple of plays that could have been made that we didn’t make. You give them anything, and they take advantage of it.”
Kyle Carter had three hits and a home run for the Blue Devils.
Josh King started and gave up three runs for the Tigers.
“He pitched well. He did a good job,” Garner said.
At the plate, Garrett Cole had three hits, and Brandon Butts had two hits.
Jackson Oliver, Rus Morman and Cody Sheffield each had a double.
For Columbus, Kyler Carter had three hits and a home run.
Troup, which stands at 1-1 in Region 2-AAA play, hosts Carver at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
