Clent was born on July 12, 1936 in Randolph County, Alabama. Mr. Harris began a 42-year career in the textile industry with Callaway Mills and retired from Shaw Industries. After retirement, Clent served for six and a half years with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, retiring as Chief Deputy. Throughout his career, he worked as a volunteer fireman and Civil Defense Member. Mr. Harris was a member of the ministry of Belmont Baptist Church for 33 years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday-school teacher, usher, benevolence committee member, security officer and much more.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Effie Harris; brothers, George Harris, Horace Harris, Curtis Harris, and Owen Harris.
Clent is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Faye Harris; a daughter, Beth Harris of Calhoun; a son, Randy Harris; and granddaughter, Heather Bailey.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Clent Harris were held at 2:00PM Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun with Dr. John Allen and Reverend Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment followed at Chandler Cemetery in Calhoun.
Junior Holloway, Gene Paul, Raymond Ross, Dwight Gentry, Daryl Marchman and Larry Dempsey served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included Gene Hufstetler, members of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, the Belmont Baptist Scrap Iron Sunday-School class, the Belmont Baptist Ushers, Jerry Davis, Pat Baker, Phillip Barnette, Blake Putnam, and Tom Graves.
