An overpowering performance by Josh King helped lead the Troup Tigers to a 10-1 victory over the homestanding Shaw Raiders Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers (5-9 overall) improved to 3-1 in Region 2-AAA, leaving them in second place behind unbeaten Columbus.

The Tigers return home Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game against Kendrick.

King, a senior, had 10 strikeouts while giving up just four hits and two walks to get the complete-game victory.

“He threw a good game tonight,” Troup coach Craig Garner said. “And we played good defense. It was just a solid ballgame.”

Jackson Oliver had two hits and three RBIs for Troup, while Eric Escobedo and Jim Reed also had two hits.

Escobedo drove in two runs on an infield single.

With the bases loaded on a 3-2 count, Escobedo hit a grounder to the shortstop, who didn’t have a play at first.

The runner from third scored, and another runner came around to score because of the inattention of the shortstop.

“Our kids were moving on the pitcher’s windup, and it was a grounder to deep short,” Garner said. “I just kept (the base runner) moving.”

Rus Morman and King each had doubles, and Garrett Cole and Cole Sims added base hits.

The Tigers jumped on Shaw starter Dominique Lakes for four runs in the first inning.

The Tigers added two more runs in the third, and they put it away with four runs in the sixth inning.

Shaw’s lone run came in the fourth inning.
