A young couple walking their dog found the body of Nola Head, 65, lying face down against a log late Wednesday afternoon in Hillibihatchee Creek. The body was sent to the GBI crime lab to determine the cause and manner of death.
The couple first thought the woman was in the creek catching fish with her hands, Buchanan said.
Head had been last seen about three hours earlier at the residence she shared with her boyfriend, Bruce Conway.
Woods separated the house and the creek, Buchanan said, and “she was known to go back to the creek” to relax.
Gunmen rob man
A 21-year-old man was beaten and robbed after leaving a residence in the 200 block of Strong Street.
The man told officers he was visiting with the resident of the house when he was asked to leave about 9:45 p.m. Monday. When he walked outside, three men carrying two shotguns appeared from behind the house and struck him in the face, knocking him to the ground.
Police said the men rummaged through his pants, grabbing $100 and his car keys. The assailants then took a $150 necklace and a $200 speaker box.
The men smashed his cell phone, so the victim drove home to call police.
