More than 900 people in Troup County have cast ballots since early voting started Monday for the Dec. 2 runoff between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin for a U.S. Senate seat.
“That’s a lot” for a ballot with one race, Chief Registrar Donna Williams said, adding, “People love the early voting.”
Unlike the general election, nobody’s had to wait in line to vote, but “it’s just been steady,” she said.
Early voting ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday because the county Government Center will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.
Williams said she has received about 1,000 absentee ballot requests from people who won’t have to leave the comfort of home to vote. Because of a change in the law, voters can get an absentee ballot without having to give a reason for missing election day.
