Since reopening the application process in November, more than 42,000 people have applied for jobs at Kia, which currently has 1,300 employees making the 2011 Sorento.
“We are very appreciative of the overwhelming response from people interested in joining the Kia team,” said Randy Jackson, director of human resources. “But we know there are many more people who want to see if they have what it takes to make it as a team member.”
Job-seekers have until May 7 to fill out and submit an application at KiaJobsinGeorgia.com. Only online applications are being accepted. The website includes videos of employees and an inside look at the $1 billion facility.
Jackson said increased demand for the Sorento has accelerated the hiring schedule for hundreds of employees in preparation for a second shift beginning this fall.
Kia’s online application process, a first for the car industry, made headlines when it was launched in 2008 with the help of Georgia’s Quick Start workforce training organization.
Kia expects additional growth as it adds production of additional car models at the facility. At that time, Kia again will reopen the online application process. People who want notification of hiring opportunities can subscribe to the FirstAlert! e-mail notification at KiaJobsInGeorgia.com.
“We know many people want to apply, but have put it off, or are students who might be about to complete high school or a technical college program and are just now thinking about what to do after graduation,” Jackson said.
