DASH for LaGrange Inc. sponsors the annual week of service and has painted 84 houses around LaGrange since 2005. Another 15 are expected to be painted this year.
But to do that, teams of volunteers are needed, along with painting supplies such as ladders, brushes, scrapers and paint. Because a “waiting list” of homeowners has been eliminated in recent years, DASH is looking for new homeowners to apply.
There’s a screening process for applicants, because homeowners must meet certain federal poverty guidelines.
Volunteer teams can have between 10 and 15 members. Groups made up of those younger than 18 are welcome to participate as long as adults are there to supervise.
Ben Wheeler, DASH community liaison, said more effort will be made this year to coordinate between DASH and the volunteers. DASH also wants to spread the message that events like “Paint the Town,” or other community volunteer events, can take place all year.
“Mostly this year we want the volunteers to feel like they are the kings and queens of the world,” Wheeler said.
