If anyone was still hungry after Thanksgiving, they must not of heard about the annual Up All Night Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner program.

In its 18th year, local TV host Jake Sessions’ holiday meal service fed its largest number of people ever.

Nearly 200 volunteers provided meals for more than 1,260 residents of Troup County, and Lafayette and Valley, Ala., on Thursday afternoon, event co-coordinator Bishop Robert Darden said.

The event’s second largest Thanksgiving service, last year’s, fed less than 1,000 people.

“Our volunteers did a great job and we’d like to thank all of them,” Darden said. “This has been our most successful Thanksgiving yet.”

Volunteers arrived at Cannon Street Elementary School’s cafeteria after 7 a.m., serving 68 carryout plates at noon and delivering 1,200 meals until 2 p.m.

Deliveries included 200 plates to Valley and Lafay-ette, and 150 to West Point. The remaining meals were carried to LaGrange residents.

“Everything that we had was eaten,” Darden said. “I’m very proud of our service.”

Darden praised the volunteers and sponsors.

“Most of the community has been very helpful,” he said. “But we are still looking for plenty of help for Christmas. We need food donations more than anything else, especially turkey, ham and vegetables.”

Anyone wanting to donate or volunteer was asked to call (706) 884-6963, (706) 845-8833 or (706) 881-4226.

Donations can be made at Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home at 201 Hamilton Road, Parmer Brothers Grocery at 1698 Vernon Road, Roots & Branches Beauty Salon at 801 Hamilton Road or TV 33 at 303 Fort Drive.

Donations also can be picked up.

Volunteers were asked to arrive at Cannon Street Elementary School any time from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 25.
