Dear Editor:

During this time of national and global economic turmoil, Troup County must actively create a prosperous future by taking stock of it assets and planning, for the long term. That is exactly what our county commissioners did Tuesday, Dec. 2, when they unanimously agreed to rezone the property on Lower Glass Bridge and Kimbrough roads from single-family, medium-density to planned-unit development.

Not only was “Talisa Township” approved by our commissioners it was, as mentioned above, unanimously approved. By this vote it demonstrates that for the present time, we have leaders that are trying to change our thinking from “rural” to “urban”. We must continue this trend to the many decisions that will face us in the near and distant future. No longer can we afford to put the future of Troup County in jeopardy for the desires of a few property owners.

I travel through the Kimberly Road property weekly and I know most of the affected owners are not in agreement with the decision made by the commission, but the decision was made for the betterment of all Troup County. I am sorry for the affected owners as they stand to lose the quality life they now enjoy. However, all neighborhoods’ future is somewhat in question when good, sensible and controlled growth is inevitable.

I think all of Troup County should be proud of the solidarity shown by the commission on this most important issue. It makes one feel, on this particular vote, that we did the right thing, when we placed our trust and future in the men who serves all of Troup County, the Troup County Board of Commissioners! I personally say “Thank You!”
