Parade victim faces surgery

A 12-year-old girl injured after the Hogansville Christmas Parade on Saturday night is expected to undergo hip surgery later this week, according to Hogansville city officials and Assistant Police Chief Tony Lattimoor.

Parade participant Sherika Moore, a Callaway Middle School student, apparently fell off the truck pulling the Save the Children float and was run over.

The accident occurred after the conclusion of the parade as the headed back to Hogansville Elementary School via Commerce Avenue.

In addition to the hip injury, the student also suffered a broken leg and several cuts. She was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. where her condition was unavailable this morning.

The girl’s recovery time is undetermined.

An investigation of the incident is continuing, Lattimoor said.
