Mr. Davis was born July 2, 1924 in Randolph County, AL, son of the late Emory and Fannie Davis. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Davis was a graduate of Auburn University where he received a degree in Entomology. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Master Mason for over 50 years, served on the Board of Diverse Power for 30 years (1968-1998), and a member of the LaGrange Shrine Club. Upon coming to La-Grange, he was employed with Troup County Health Department. His love for environment and land led to a long career in pest control services as well as farming and real estate ventures. He loved his farming and was an active member of the Troup County Cattleman’s Association for many years. Mr. Davis was a member of Dallas Presbyterian Church, the Optimist Club, and life member of the Agricultural Alumni Association of Auburn University. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Barber, and a son-in-law, Kirk Wynne.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Davis; two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Wynne and Rhonda and Ron Jackson of Salem, AL; sister, Mary Jackson; brother, Ralph Davis; grandchildren, Cody and Christy Wynne; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Dr. James Dodd officiating. Burial will follow in Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke, AL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.
