From staff reports

There’s something to be said for familiarity.

There were nine titles up for grabs on Sunday on the final day of the Masters Water Ski and Wakeboard Tournament, and five of those championships went to athletes who stood atop the awards podium a year ago.

One of those repeat winners was Nicola Butler, who won her second straight Masters title.

Another repeat winner was William Asher, who won the men’s slalom for the third straight year.

Freddy Krueger edged Thomas Asher by two feet to defend his men’s jump title, Whitney McClintock defended her title in women’s tricks, and June Fladborg soared 174 feet to win the women’s jump title again.

In men’s wakeboarding, Phillip Soven secured his third Masters title by outlasting his brother, Bob Soven.

Brandon Thomas won the first Masters title awarded in wakeskate, Herman Beliakou was the men’s tricks champion, and Regina Jaquess dominated the women’s slalom.
