Police said Brian Neal Ellison, 32, of Plymouth Drive was in a car chase with members of the State Patrol and Troup County Sheriff’s Department about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Ellison wrecked his car and fled on foot, then pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head behind a residence at 110 Reeves St., police said.
He was taken to West Georgia Medical Center and pronounced dead. The body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Chad Mann said he couldn’t release any information this morning, but planned to issue a statement later today.
A sheriff’s report said Ellison had been arrested about 4:30 p.m. at a neighbor’s residence on Plymouth Drive on a charge of obstruction of an officer, but there was no record of him arriving at the county jail or making bond.
Another sheriff’s report said deputies went to the 600 block of Gray Hill School Road about 6 p.m. where a woman said Ellison had gone inside a residence and “threatened to kill everybody.”
The woman said she got him outside and away from children at the home.
“At that time, they got into a verbal argument outside the residence,” the report said.
LaGrange police had a warrant against him for credit card fraud.
The case was under investigation today by the police and sheriff’s departments, State Patrol and GBI.
