Sooner or later in any discussion about religion, someone will say, “It’s a miracle!” Typically, the professor of the miracle will praise the lord that she is not dead. But what about the millions of good people who just suffer and die? Was the miracle worker on vacation? And does the miracle professor ever praise the ambulance which took her to the emergency room instead of a church?
One of the anonymous church ladies even sent me a book about someone who claims to have died and now has messages from the other side. These messages are for sale in paperback at six bucks a pop, and more than 400K have been sold. Is that more than $2 million? That kind of non-dying is a sweet gig if you can get it.
But what if the church ladies are wrong? What if this really is all there is? Unlike the Peggy Lee song, there is no requirement to break out the booze and have a ball. Instead, we can appreciate the life we have for what it is. We can realize that here and now is what is important, and that we are free to concentrate on life before death.
