Police said the man approached the victim’s residence and asked to use the telephone. The man then walked inside and demanded money. When the victim said he had no money, the intruder grabbed him, removed his wallet and left with what was inside before fleeing.

Man gives money, assaulted
A man was struck in the face and kicked after three men asked him for money in the 200 block of Byron Hurst Street.
Police said the assailants walked up to the man and asked for money about 3:45 a.m. Sunday. He gave them some, and they demanded more, but he told them he didn’t have anymore.
One of the men struck the man in the face, and he fell to the ground. The three then kicked him and fled.
The victim was treated at West Georgia Medical Center.

Arson probed at apartments
LaGrange police were investigating a suspected arson of two buildings under construction near Lee’s Crossing Apartments.
Police received a call to a fire at two apartment buildings under construction at 100 Old Airport Road about 11:50 p.m. Saturday. Officials said someone attempted to set fire to the two buildings, but little damage was done.

Thefts, burglaries
— Items valued at $2,300, along with $300, were stolen in a burglary in the 300 block of Cumberland Drive.
— A black leather wallet with $280 and several credit cards was stolen from a car in the 400 block of Sivell Road.
— Copper was stolen from two air-conditioning units at a bank-owned house in the 2100 block of Greenville Road.
— A bicycle and helmet were stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 100 block of Mallory Drive.
— A transmission valued at $350 was stolen from a 1993 Ford Taurus in the 7200 block of West Point Road.
— A .40-caliber gun valued at $400 was stolen from a residence in the 5000 block of West Point Road.
Vandalism
— Vandals pushed over wooden barriers at the entrance of Yellow Jacket Beach on Cameron Mill Road, causing an estimated $300 damage.
— A vehicle destroyed a mailbox and paper box at a residence in the 300 block of Cheyenne Drive, causing an estimated $250 damage.
Arrest
Troup County sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert Riggins, 55, of Clairmont Drive on a warrant for deposit account fraud.
Online mischief
A woman told sheriff’s deputies that somebody changed the password on her student access account at West Georgia Technical College and dropped her from three classes she was enrolled in for the next semester. The culprit also posted a message on her Facebook account about her having a sexually transmitted disease.
