The Dawson Street Wildcats head into their holiday break on a roll.

The Wildcats, who won't play again until Jan. 2, beat Hidden Lakes Academy 78-26 on Tuesday to improve to 4-1.

The Wildcats' only loss game to GISA Class AAA power Dominion Christian.

“I like how this team is playing,” Dawson Street head coach Albert Jackson said. “I think this team can do some damage.”

After the new year, the Wildcats will begin their GISA Region 4-A schedule.

Against Hidden Lakes, the Cats were up 21-8 after the first quarter, and they led 45-13 at the half.

Travis Jennings led the Cats with 25 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and six assists.

Against Dominion, Jennings had 27 points.

Nick Wilburn contributed 19 points, and Dequincey Williams scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Jacorey Williams had eight points and eight assists.

n LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN: The Lafayette basketball teams held their own Thursday night, as both the girls' and boys' squads were able to knock off Golden Acres decisively.

The boys were able to capitalize off a fast start, winning 69-56. The Cougars (2-3) were ahead 24-5 after the first quarter and led by 19 at the half.

Golden Acres was able to keep things close, however, and outscored Lafayette 22-14 in the third quarter trailed by just six in the fourth.

However, the Cougars were able to pull ahead and end their three-game losing streak.

Daniel Gomez, Jarred Pike and Matt Dellinger each had 10 points, and Greg Hutcheson had seven points and eight rebounds.

Head coach Rene Gomez said the Cougars’ biggest fault during the three-game skid was free-throw shooting, and the Cougars showed improvement as they hit 15 of 18 free throws through three quarters.

“It was a great effort by our guys,” Gomez said. “It’s good to finish off the year with a win going into region play in January.”

The girls were also able to run away with their win – to the tune of a 59-4 score.

Chelsea Brown scored 25 points and Haley Jo Lucas had eight as the Lady Cougars picked up their second win of the season.

Lafayette coach Julie Spears was glad the Lady Cougars won so handily, and said it allowed her team to run some different things.

“We were able to execute some things we can’t usually do in practice because we don’t have enough players,” Spears said.

The game was the last of the year for the Cougars.

“We’re looking forward to getting some practice in before returning after the new year,” Spears said.
