Brandon Bowen wasn’t sure if he would have the opportunity to play football in college, but having that thought in the back of his mind never detracted him from his goal.

Since first donning the red and black jersey of the Callaway High Cavaliers, Bowen had a goal to play at the next level.

Bowen’s dream will be realized this fall as he takes the field again at Callaway Stadium, but this time for the LaGrange College Panthers.

“I am ecstatic about it,” Bowen said. “I thought that I wouldn’t be going anywhere to play football, but LaGrange College called me and asked if I would come over and play. I have always wanted to play college ball its something that I have been shooting for since I started playing high school football.”

Bowen will be joined at LaGrange College by another former Cavalier, Josh Ham.

Ham was a standout place kicker for the Cavs.

Even though Bowen received two scholarships offers from Division II schools, he couldn’t see himself leaving his hometown and family.

“The hometown feel is what really drew me into playing at LaGrange College,” Bowen said. “I had two full ride offers to Division II schools, but I like being here and being around my family. LaGrange was just the best choice for me.”

Bowen went on to say that it was also talking and getting to know Panther head coach Todd Mooney that sealed the deal for him to attend LaGrange College.

Mooney worked closely with both players to secure as much financial aid as possible.

“He’s a great coach,” Bowen said. “He has helped me get me in touch with some of the older guys on the team to help me start lifting in the weight room. He helped me out a lot, and told me I could play two sports if I wanted to.”

Bowen was a two-sport threat for the Cavaliers, playing defense for the cavalier football team, and first base for the baseball team. Bowen said that he will be looking into the option of trying out for the baseball team, along with his cousin, LaGrange College basketball signee Jordan Ring.

Bowen said he’ll look forward to having Ham there with him.

“It’s going to be great having someone up there that I already know and to start out there with a good friend on the team with me,” Bowen said.

Even though he is not sure if he will play on the offensive or defensive side of the ball when the Panthers take the field in the fall, he does know that the defensive side is the one that holds a true place in his heart.

“I really like playing defense because I have a lot of aggression when I play,” Bowen said, “and you cant get that on the offensive side of the ball.”
