Dear Editor:

More than 130 tennis players, young and old, recently turned out to raise a racket for literacy by participating in the seventh annual Charlie Joseph’s CLCP Lobbin’ for Literacy tennis tournament. Special thanks go to tournament organizers Bill Champion, Cheryl Pitts and all the tennis staff who, despite record participation, did their usual wonderful job of conducting a first-class competition.

The tournament could not happen without the generous support of Joey and Paula Keeth who once again served as title sponsor. What a great incentive to support literacy.

Other support was provided by businesses who served as sponsors and provided door prizes.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used to sustain the Troup County CLCP Summer Reading Program in the Benjamin Harvey Hill and Lucy Morgan communities. Held during the months of June and July, the CLCP Summer Reading Program provides books, arts and crafts supplies, school supplies and snacks for participating children.

Mama Jama and other special guests provide the children with stories and encouragement to continue reading during the summer months. New and gently used books are given to the children to read during the summer months while they are out of school.

Thanks to everyone that participated, spectated or donated. Together, we are all part of the Literacy Solution in Troup County where our efforts are changing our community one life at a time.
