The Sweet Land of Liberty Parade for Youth will honor recent high school graduates Saturday in downtown LaGrange.

Each high school and the West Georgia Home School Organization selected one senior to be the recipient of a Proud American Award. The recent graduates were chosen based on good character, patriotism and leadership. This year’s winners will be introduced and will participate in the parade.

Winners are:

— Heather Barger, the “American Flag” award winner, Callaway High School. Her activities included student council, chorus, National Society of High School Scholars, DAR Award, and wrote for the Scroll yearbook and the Reflector student newspaper.

— Hannah Howard, the “American Eagle” award winner, West Georgia Home School Organization. Her high school activities included Sister City International Conference youth representative; Optimist Club essay winner; pianist at her church; published in Highlights Magazine and International Library of Poetry; and volunteer with American Red Cross, L.I.F.E. and Florence Hand Nursing Home.

— Gene Mansour, the “Proud American” award winner, LaGrange High School. His activities included salutatorian, golf team, student council, service club, SAGE Club (president), St. Peter’s Catholic Church youth group and National Honor Society; and

— Betsy Trotter, the “Lady Liberty” award winner, LaGrange Academy. Her high school activities included literary team, National Honor Society (vice president), Headmaster’s Award and Diverse Power Foundation Academic Scholarship.

I have to agree with UnderstandingMom, Troup High School as well as Lafayette Christian School were slighted by this front page article. Even though the editor offers an apology, any good journalist would have made an attempt to contact the slighted schools when there were no representatives of these schools listed, or at least added an Editors Note to the article stating that no information was available at presstime for these schools.

The slight is quite the buzz at my workplace today. Sorry LDN, this time you dropped the ball. It helps to remember that THS and LCS parents purchase your newspaper, too.

Editor's note: The students listed in this story are the students who agreed to participate in the parade ceremony. We were not given the entire list of students chosen.

We are sorry for any confusion.

Is there some reason that Troup High does not have a representative listed in this article? Or maybe the newspapers bias towards Troup High is just being more pronounced by this obvious omission.
