Three men had qualified as of Wednesday to run for Troup County Board of Education in the Nov. 2 general election.

District 7 incumbent Alfred McNair, 55, a pharmacist at West Georgia Health, is being opposed by Lee West, 71, former longtime managing editor of LaGrange Daily News.

Retired school administrator Clarence Terrell “Ted” Alford Sr., 67, qualified to run for the District 4 seat currently held by Daves Nichols, 77, who has decided not to seek a fourth four-year term.

No one had qualified for the District 1 seat currently held by Robert Tatum.

Vickie Sue McWaters, 50, qualified to run for a seventh four-year term as chief magistrate.

Qualifying for the nonpartisan races started Monday in the county probate office and ends at noon Friday.
