Qualifying for the nonpartisan races in the Nov. 2 general election started Monday in the county Probate Office and ended at noon Friday.
District 1 incumbent Robert R. Tatum, 58, a business consultant, is opposed by Allen L. Simpson III, 53, owner of Good Seed Christian Books on Vernon Street.
District 4 candidates are retired school administrator Clarence Terrell “Ted” Alford Sr., 67, and Joan Woodson, 67, a mental health clinician and retired school counselor. She is the wife of LaGrange City Councilman Nick Woodson.
Incumbent Daves Nichols, 77, a former coach, teacher and assistant school superintendent, did not qualify for a fourth four-year term, saying, “It’s time for somebody else to pick up the ball and run with it.”
District 7 incumbent Alfred McNair, 55, a pharmacist at West Georgia Health, is opposed by Lee West, 71, former longtime managing editor of the LaGrange Daily News.
Chief Magistrate Vickie Sue McWaters, 50, is unopposed for a seventh four-year term.
