A LaGrange man was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 28 years’ probation Friday after he pleaded guilty to five counts of child molestation, four counts of cruelty to children, battery and two counts of simple battery.

Prosecutors said Jason Corey Irwin, 32, committed various acts of cruelty against four girls and a boy between Jan. 1, 1999 and June 15, 2007. The district attorney’s office said prosecution was not barred by the statute of limitations because the crimes involved children under 16 and were not reported to law enforcement until June 10, 2007.

In addition to sexual abuse, the crimes included: taping a boy’s hands and dunking him in bath water; hitting victims with sticks, poles and other objects; and shooting a BB gun at them. He threatened to kill victims and their families if they told anyone.

Others sentenced after pleading guilty were:

• Broderick D. Kennedy, 24, LaGrange; 10 years in prison for two counts of selling cocaine.

• Janice Marie Roberson, 49, of LaGrange; five years in prison for sale of Xanax, a controlled substance.

• Antonio Jackson, 23, of LaGrange; three years in prison, three years’ probation and restitution of $1,148.72 for two counts of financial transaction card fraud.

• James Robert Henson, 40, of LaGrange; two years at the Public Works Camp, three years’ probation and fines of $1,275 for possession of methamphetamine.

Brandy, I wholeheartedly agree with you. He is despicable. I just can't imagine the emotional damage done to these abused kids.

Is it just me or is it odd that this Pedophile only received 12 years for emotionally "murdering" these four innocent children and another man received 10 years for cocaine?

Don't get me wrong the man with cocaine should serve time and without knowing specifics of his case I am NOT arguing he should have gotten less time.

My problem is with any judge who would give only 12 years to a monster who preys on small children and has evidently done so for many years. These monsters, studies have shown, are NOT capable of rehabilitation and should NOT be allowed to function in our society. These children will never be given the chance to have a normal childhood and they will forever carry the emotional scars of this mans despicable acts.

I just pray when he does get out he is placed in a position where he can never harm an innocent victim again.
