The Troup County District Attorney’s Office authorized police to charge the suspects as adults because of the seriousness of the crime, Kerr said. Charges include armed robbery, aggravated assault and criminal trespass.
West Point Police gave this account of the incident, which took place Friday night in the 100 block of Sunset Drive:
The suspects approached the delivery man after he exited his car to deliver pizza to a residence and began punching him and demanding money. One of the suspects reportedly said, “Get the gun.”
The victim never saw a weapon, but managed to run to his vehicle and escape as the suspects kept his pizzas. He immediately headed to the West Point Police Department.
With the help of several anonymous tips from people in the vicinity of the incident, police obtained warrants for each juvenile.
No weapons were found.
“They are being charged with armed robbery because they told the victim that they did have a weapon even though he never saw it and we never found one,” Kerr said. “But the they obviously caused the man to fear for his life.”
The victim was said to suffer minor facial injuries, but refused to be taken for treatment.
The suspects are currently being detained at the Columbus Regional Youth Detention Center.
