A man armed with a shotgun stole money from a cash register and a man’s wallet about 2:45 a.m. today.

The man walked into the Summit store at 320 Commerce Ave. wearing a black stocking-type mask over his head and demanded that the clerk open the cash register. The robber took the money and took the clerk’s wallet before fleeing on foot on Hogansville Road.

The robber was described as a black male with closely cut hair, about 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing about 230 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt, jeans and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information was asked to call Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000 or LaGrange police investigator Craig Wheeler at (706) 883-2617.

Infected nail irks salon customer

A woman wanted justice after her finger became infected from a bad nail job.

The woman called police from the nail salon after noticing that her finger became infected. She wanted her money back, but the owner said it was against their policy to refund money after services were rendered.

The owner offered to fix the bad nail, but the woman only wanted her money back.

Officers told her that no crime had been committed and she could take her business elsewhere.

— A man pre-paid for $20 worth of gas at Ribitz convenience store on West Point Road, then pumped $41 worth of gas and drove away.

Vandalism

Three cars at a residence in the 100 block East Mount Zion Church Road were severely scratched on both the driver and passenger sides, and a window screen on the house was torn off.

Pitching a fit

A 14-year-old LaGrange boy went berserk Thursday afternoon when his mother told him he couldn’t do something. He broke his cell phone and sporting trophies, then ran outside and kicked down part of a privacy fence, but later repaired it. His mother was advised of juvenile complaint procedures.

Hit and run

Sheriff’s deputies issued warrants against a 17-year-old motorist who allegedly ran over a person’s left foot Thursday night at Highland Marina, then fled in the vehicle. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.

Deputies probe kidnapping try

The Troup County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information about an attempted kidnapping in the 1300 block of Corinth Road near Hogansville.

Public information officer Sgt. Chad Mann said a 13-year-old boy was walking along the road about 7 p.m. Monday when a man in a white passenger van stopped and asked the boy if he needed a ride. The boy declined and the man told him to get in the van and take a ride with him. The boy again declined, and the man got out of his van and started walking toward the boy, saying, “Get in the (expletive) van!”

The boy took off running and the man chase him a short distance, then went back to his van and started driving while keeping a close eye on the boy, who got on his cell phone and called his mother. When the man saw him using the cell phone, the motorist pulled onto Glover Road in the direction of Johnson Road.

The man was described as white, heavy-set, about 5 feet 8, perhaps in his 30s, with short brown hair and brown-gray scruffy facial hair.

The older-model van was similar to a church van with rows of seats and large windows with a rounded hood. It had a scratch along the passenger side from the front door to the taillight, and there was also a football-sized dent on the driver’s side beneath the middle window.

Anyone with information about the van or the suspect was asked to call 911 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
