At least they managed to get on the field this time.

On Monday, the two Troup County baseball teams participating in the Dixie Boys Baseball state tournament in Covington were unable to play because of rain.

They returned to Covington on Tuesday, and although Mother Nature once again made its presence felt, Troup’s teams were able to get some baseball in before play was halted for the day.

In the 13-year-old state tournament, Troup was was leading Newton County 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning with two runners on and no one out.

In the 13-14-year-old tournament, Troup was leading Thomaston 2-1 in the fifth inning.

Both teams will resume their games today, with Troup and Newton County finishing their game at noon, and Troup and Thomaston picking up their game at 2 p.m.

Troup’s 13-14-year-old team will play again at 8 p.m. today.

If Troup beats Newton County, it will advance to the state-championship gameat 5 p.m. against Columbia County.

On Sunday, Troup rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to beat Columbia County 5-4.

As for Newton County game, head coach Huey Hood said, “there’s a lot of good things happening in this game. We will just have to see how it plays out.”Hood said he isn’t worried about his players getting back into game mode today.

“These guys stay pumped,” Hood said. “I have had teams in the past that you have to worry about them getting back up for the game. We left to eat and came back and these guys were more fired up then when we left.”

Troup’s 13-14-year-old team, meanwhile, is looking to improve to 3-0 in the tournament and move a step closer to securing a spot in Friday’s championship game.
