A woman allegedly tried to strike a man walking with a small child at Young’s Mill Road and Hearthstone Drive.

Police gave this account:

Passing motorists said they saw the man walking on Young’s Mill Road with a boy. Terice Lashell Thornton, 34, of Young’s Mill Road was on a cell phone when she aggressively drove onto a curb and into a yard and attempted to hit them.

The man told officers the two had been fighting over money, and he decided to leave to avoid the fight. He grabbed the boy, his son, and walked out when Thornton got in her car and drove toward him. He jumped on a neighbor’s porch to avoid her vehicle.

The woman said she accidentally drove on the curb because she was on the phone and that everyone around was lying about her.

Officers noticed discrepancies in her story, including that she drove the entire car onto a yard uphill over steep curbs, rather than just over the curb.

Thornton was charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to a child.

Armed man makes threats

A man cocked a gun and threatened to shoot up a house in the 200 block of Chatham Street.

Police said the man had left some items at the residence, and the owner said he could pick them up when she returned from work. A family member of the man arrived to pick up the items, and the woman refused to give them to him. The man pulled a gun, chambered a round and threatened to “shoot the place up.”

The woman shut the door in his face and called 911.

Warrants were placed on the man for making terroristic threats and acts.
