For King, signing the scholarship completed a goal that he had set out for himself at the beginning of his senior season.
“It feels really good to sign with Marshall,” King said. “I am really excited. I can’t wait to get out there.”
King was all set to play for Southern Union next season and hoped to move to a four-year school after his time was done.
It was while he was playing summer baseball in Ohio for the Ohio Warhawks that King came to the attention of the Marshall coaches.
The coaches were at one of the Warhawks’ games looking at another player, and King had a terrific day at the plate.
“They were just at one game that I was pitching in,” King said. “After the game my coach told me that the Marshall coaches wanted to talk to me. I was a little surprised but we talked and he got mynumber and then he called me two days later and offered me.”
The day after completing the summer baseball season, King boarded a flight to West Virginia where he was able to check out his new campus.
“As soon as summer ball was over I flew down to West Virginia and checked out the college,” King said. “I was really impressed with the weight room and the other facilities that they had on campus.”
King will be a dual threat for the Thundering Herd, both on the mound and at the plate.
“Its great to see him reach a goal that he had set for himself from the beginning of the year,” head coach Craig Garner said. “He is making the decision that suits him best, and I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
