Accused molester found in Indiana

A LaGrange man wanted on six counts of child molestation has been found in Delaware County, Ind.

Deputies said William Alect Abernathy III, 40, was seen walking around during a nighttime field operation in Muncie. He was questioned by police and his identity was researched.

Officers found three misdemeanor counts for violations and six outstanding warrants for aggravated child molestation through Troup County.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Department is working on Abernathy’s extradition.

Abernathy was indicted in March on four counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of child molestation for allegedly having oral sex with a girl younger than 16.

Man charged

in robbery

An armed robbery suspect is behind bars after a search warrant in the 600 block of Frank Hall Jr. Street in West Point.

Police said Charles Conrad Davidson, 26, of West Point was found inside the residence. He was part of a duo accused of holding up a residence in the 900 block of Avenue K on Saturday.

Davidson was charged with criminal attempt of murder, criminal attempt of armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

A 32-year-old woman was charged with harboring the fugitive at the residence.

The second suspect in Saturday’s robbery is still being sought by officers. Anyone with information was asked to call West Point police at (706) 645-3525 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 800-756-8282.

Man arrested

on drug charges

A LaGrange man wanted on multiple drug charges has been arrested.

Deputies said Christopher Daniel Drake, 36, of Smokemont Drive was arrested about 4 p.m. Friday. He was wanted after releasing himself from a Columbus hospital and failing to turn himself in.

Police said Drake was found under the influence of drugs in his car off Hillcrest Road in West Point on Aug. 3 and was taken to the hospital.

In his car, police found about 35 grams of methamphetamine, 40 grams of cocaine, 4 ounces of marijuana, ephedrine, and various prescription drugs, including Lortab, a hydro-codone-based pain reliever, and Adipex, an appetite suppressant similar to amphetamines.

Officers raided his residence on Smokemont Drive the next day, yielding 6 ounces of cocaine, 3 pounds of marijuana and various amount of heroin and hashish, valued at about $20,000. Officers also seized about $20,000.

He was charged with a violation of the state Controlled Substance Act, possession of LSD, trafficking in cocaine and a probation violation.

Damage

- A vandal scratched curse words into the hood and trunk of a vehicle in the 300 block of Harwell Avenue, causing more than $500 damage.

- Gang symbols were spray-painted on the front of Hope Academy at 200 Mooty Bridge Road and A Beautiful Bouquet at 1107 Mooty Bridge Road. Damage was estimated at less than $500.

Fire destroys vacant house

A fire reported at 2:55 a.m. today destroyed a vacant house with no utility connections at 903 Taft St.

Flames were shooting through the roof when firefighters arrived. The owner of the $40,000 house had not been determined, nor had a cause of the fire.

Guilty plea

Chandra Lashell Parker, 32, of Lanett, Ala., was sentenced to two years in prison, three years’ probation and restitution of $732.47 for theft by taking and false statements.

Parker had been employed at LongHorn Steakhouse in LaGrange, where she would ring up meals as a gift card purchase and pocket the cash, said assistant district attorney William Hocutt IV. After her arrest, she falsely claimed to have been sexually assaulted by an inmate.

Burglaries, thefts

- Items valued at $100 were stolen from the yard of a home in the 100 block of Lower Lovelace Road near West Point.

- Two signs valued at $430 were stolen from the Northside Fun Park at 100 Southern Drive.

- A car stereo and a TomTom GPS system were stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of College Avenue. Items were valued at $200. A Pioneer car stereo and various CDs were stolen from another vehicle, with items valued at $400.

- A Homelite weed trimmer and two rakes were stolen from Amberwood Apartments at 815 N. Greenwood St. Items were valued at $200.

- Three money bags containing about $150 in change were stolen from a broken safe behind a door with a broken deadbolt in the LaGrange College cafeteria at 601 Broad St.

- A ring valued at $700, along with $600 worth of change, were stolen in a burglary in the 100 block of Carr Road.

- Items valued at $200 were stolen in a burglary in the first block of Ash Drive.

- A purple Michael Kors purse containing a wallet with identification and credit cards was stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of East McClendon Circle. Items were valued at $656.

- A Sony car stereo valued at $450 was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of Greenville Street.

- A set of Echo hedge clippers valued at $350 were stolen from a tool shed behind New Ventures Inc. at 306 Fort Drive.

- A leaf blower and a weed eater were stolen from a truck outside Piggly Wiggly at 511 S. Greenwood St. Items were valued at $200.

- A yellow purse containing credit cards and a wallet was stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of Springdale Drive. Items were valued at $155.

- A thief stole an ivory-colored garden fountain with a frog inside from the front yard of a residence in the first block of Cary Street. The fountain, which was custom made by the owner’s son, was valued at $120

- A Murray lawnmower valued at $100 was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of Ware Street.

- It is the policy of LaGrange Daily News to print the names of people charged with felonies.
