Police said the man had struck a black kitten several times and placed it, along with another kitten, near a railroad track in the area without food or water Aug. 10. The kitten was found motionless and lethargic. It had lost bowel function and was being swarmed by ants. The other kitten couldn’t be located.
Police said a woman lied to officers about the incident and encouraged the man to lie about his whereabouts during the incident.
The man was charged with cruelty to an animal, and the woman was charged with obstruction.
The injured kitten appeared to be healthy and was meowing after being treated at the LaGrange Animal Shelter.
Man points gun, drives away
A man told police that another man pointed a gun at him in the parking lot of Wood Glen Apartments at 64 N. Cary St.
Police said the man was sitting in his car when the second man pulled alongside him, pointed a gun at the vehicle and shouted while rolling his window down. The victim drove out of the parking lot and turned right, while the assailant turned left.
No shots were fired.
Police said the two had had dangerous meetings before, when the suspected assailant allegedly shot at the victim’s car in the Taco Bell parking lot at 314 New Franklin Road on Aug. 10.
Man curses at police, goes to jail
A man who told police he wasn’t afraid to go to jail wound up behind bars anyway.
Officers said the man had been trying to fight another man fixing a car at the residence in the 300 block of Revis Street. The assailant began yelling out that he wasn’t afraid of police, that he was from Atlanta and he had to keep his reputation.
The second man said he spoke to the first man, trying to make him leave the residence.
The assailant began talking on his cell phone and cursing at police. He was charged with disorderly conduct.
Woman tries to punch granddad
A woman told officers she broke her wrist after falling from a front porch.
Police said the woman had returned from the hospital and had been drinking. She was standing on the porch with her grandfather, and she tried to punch him but missed.
To defend himself, the grandfather pushed the woman away, and she stumbled and fell from the porch. The woman’s husband told officers that as long as she drinks, she causes problems.
AMR workers said her wrist wasn’t broken. The grandfather said he didn’t plan to file charges.
Fires
- Lightning was blamed for a fire that caused an estimated $22,000 damage at the home of Leroy Hubbard at 871 Shake Rag Road.
The fire, reported at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday, started under the floor from a ruptured propane gas line.
- Arson has been ruled as the cause of a fire early Wednesday morning that destroyed a vacant house with no utility connections at 903 Taft St.
Flames were shooting through the roof when firefighters arrived. The house, owned by Elbert Fuller Jr., was valued at $40,000.
Thefts, burglaries
- A black 2002 Lincoln LS was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Lakemont Drive. The car had a dent on the rear passenger side and a Hillcrest Elementary School sticker on the rear window.
- Items valued at $350 were stolen in a burglary in the 100 block of Glenda Drive.
- An air-conditioning unit was stolen from a home in the 300 block of Corinth Road near Hogansville.
- Items valued at $750 were stolen from a residence on Avenue H in West Point.
- Three bicycles, a Trek bicycle, a blue Roadmaster and a second bicycle were stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Houston Street. The items were valued at $450.
- Items valued at $150 were stolen from a residence on West 14th Street in West Point.
