Ms. Mary Alice Gunn, 82, formerly of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Piedmont-Henry Hospital in Stockbridge.

She was born February 17, 1930 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late William and Isabelle Gunn. Following graduation from East Depot Street High School, she earned an associates degree in nursing from Columbus State University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia at Athens. During her 40 year nursing career, Ms. Gunn served at Lanier Hospital in Valley, West Georgia Medical Center, and Humana Hospital, Newnan.

Ms. Gunn is survived by her five children: Carlton Davis (Linda), Athens, GA; Jackie (Pamela) Davis, Cary, NC; Stanley (Teresa) Davis, Athens, AL; Vernita Davis (Bobbie Allen), McDonough, GA; Joseph Davis, Smyrna, GA; eight grandchildren: Chadwick (Lynette) Davis, Kimberly Davis, Deirdre Brown, Brian Davis, BreAnna Davis, Brandon Davis, Jessica Davis, and Chloe Humphrey; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Kelcey, Jeremiah and Caitlyn; sister, Winifred (Eric) Burns, Jeffersonville, IN; brother, Wardell (Margaret) Gunn, Columbia Station, OH; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Gunn was preceded in death by a brother, William Gunn Jr. and grandson, Eric Bernard Davis.

The funeral service will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00PM at St. John Community Baptist Church, County Road 212 in Lanett. Dr. W. T. Edmondson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 8.
