After eight months of campaigning, Republican Buck Davis garnered 69 percent of the votes, securing his re-election to County Commission District 2.

“Thanks for all the citizens that helped. I am very thankful for those who voted for me,” Davis said after seeing the results.

William Herndon, Davis’ Democrat opponent, received almost 31 percent of the votes. Herndon says that despite his defeat, he will still support Davis and his party.

“Anything I can do to make Troup County better, I will do it,” Herndon said Tuesday. “Davis’ supporters have seen what he has done in the last four years, so they know what he can do. Just do the right thing.”

Davis complemented Herndon on the campaign.

“I appreciate Herndon for running a good and clean race,” Davis said. “It’s been a long, hard race.”

Davis, who has served on the commission since 1997, said he was ready to get back to work for another four years. Primary issues that Davis said he was ready to tackle first include picking up on paving projects and road work to make the roadways more safe for traveling.

Davis said the county has a plan set for building a bridge on Salem Road in the following months and building a new fire department to cover three schools in the district. He encouraged residents to voice their issues and concerns to him whenever needed.

“Citizens look to me to handle their concerns within the city. So I’m ready to get back to work and see growth within the community,” Davis said.
