The Georgia State Patrol Post 2 in LaGrange is bringing a new task to their partnership with the Marine Corps for the Toys for Tots fundraiser.

This year the GSP will be conducting child safety seat checks at the donation sites for this year’s fundraiser.

The seat checks are courtesy checks that are offered to anyone that requests and state troopers will be available to give tips and pointers on how to secure children properly.

“It is important for parents to let us check their children’s seats, since they will probably be doing a lot of traveling for the holidays.” said Scott Jeter, Coordinator for Georgia State Patrol Post 2 in LaGrange. “People can request a trooper at any time to check their children’s car seats.”

In addition to making sure children are safe, those involved with Toys for Tots also want to ensure that children in the community are not with need.

Last year 2,021 toys and over $6,500 were donated in Troup County,which was able to provide to more than 1,200 children, and they are hoping to surpass those numbers this year.

“We want to make sure every needy child receives a new toy on Christmas Day.” said Jeter.

Toys for Tots donations will be accepted until Dec. 15. Any new and unwrapped toys are welcomed, along with monetary donations at the Walmart on New Franklin Road, Big Lots on Commerce Ave, and the Georgia State Patrol post on Hamilton Road.
