A Troup High School assistant principal will take over as principal at Callaway High School.

Lauren Wilson, THS assistant principal and registrar, will begin as principal effective Feb. 1. She replaces Janet Greer, who resigned suddenly at the end of 2012, citing state legislation that affects retired educators’ ability to return to teaching in Georgia.

Retired LaGrange High School principal Steve Cole has served as interim principal at CHS since Jan. 3 and will continue until Wilson begins. Both were affirmed at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting.

Wilson has worked in the Troup County School System for 10 years and been in education a total 13 years, said Karen Cagle, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Wilson is a graduate of University of Georgia, and received a masters degree in educational leadership in 2006 and educational specialist degree in 2007 from Troy State University.

She has worked at Gardner Newman Middle School for seven years, and previously worked at West Georgia RESA as a school improvement specialist and an assistant principal in Heard County. Her husband, David Adam Wilson, is athletic director at Gardner Newman.

“You are going to do a fabulous job, we are so proud to have you,” Cagle told Wilson.

“Thank you, I cannot wait to begin this new experience,” Wilson replied.
