The LaGrange Lady Grangers took care of business early against rival Troup Tuesday night.

In their final home game of the regular season, the Lady Grangers surged to a 24-4 lead after the first quarter on the way to a 72-32 victory.

After the game, the team’s six seniors were honored, and in the final minute of regulation, head coach Jan Jones made sure all of them got a chance to get back on the court to enjoy the moment.

“I got the first five in, and then I had to call a timeout and get the last one in,” Jones said. “They’ve won a ton of games, been a part of a final four, a region championship. They kind of filled some big shoes when they came in their freshman year.”

One of those seniors, Brittany Tatum, led the way with 16 points, and she had 10 points in the decisive first quarter.

Andrea Heflin added 14 points, and Tajah Banks scored eight.

DeeDee Sanders led Troup with 16 points, and Tamayah Potts scored 11.

LaGrange (18-5 overall) improved to 8-4 in Region 5-AAAA with two critical road games coming up this weekend against Carrollton and Columbus.

The Lady Grangers lost to both of those teams earlier this season, and if they win both games this weekend they’ll finish no worse than third in the region.

If they lose both of them, they’d likely finish fifth.

With that in mind, Jones made sure to give her regular players plenty of rest time during Tuesday’s game, and she also feels it’s important to get the more inexperienced players some court time.

“The biggest thing was getting the young girls an opportunity to play, because we’re going to need them come tournament time,” Jones said. “We’re going to need those young girls to step up.”

The Lady Tigers have won just one game this season, but that victory came against a Shaw team they’ll host in their regular-season finale on Friday.

If Troup wins, it will be the number seven seed for next week’s region tournament.
