The Board of Education meeting where members are expected to vote on budget proposals that include closing Unity Elementary School is underway.

After student and staff recognitions, and other business items, the board is expected to decide whether to make up an expected $4 million deficit by accepting a recommendation to:

•Close Unity Elementary School to save an estimated $1.1 million,

•Make various budget reductions totaling $1.9 million,

•Increase the property tax rate by .25 mill to bring in $500,000 additional revenue,

•And use $500,000 in reserve funds.

Board members may choose to move forward with the staff- and Advisory Task Force-recommended proposal or pursue alternative options.
