A partnership between some of Troup County’s law enforcement lead to one of the largest joint operations in years.

Personnel from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and the LaGrange Police Department conducted traffic safety checkpoints on Saturday, which resulted in three arrests and seven citations. The operation ran for about four hours and arrests included charges for driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

“I couldn’t have been more pleased with this operation. The men and women from both agencies worked great together,” said Sheriff James Woodruff.

The operation, conducted in the City of LaGrange and Troup County, was the works of Captain Mike Caldwell, Chief Investigator with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, and Sergeant Robert Kirby, supervisor in the LaGrange Police Department’s criminal investigations section.

“We are looking forward to working with Sheriff Woodruff and his deputies in the future. This was a great idea and it really opened relations between the police department and the sheriff’s office,” said Kirby.

The LaGrange Police Department and Troup County Sheriff’s Office have already started talks about more operations in the future but at this time nothing has been finalized.
