Mr. George A. Akings of 416 Lexington Park, LaGrange, GA, passed away Thursday at the LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 71 years of age.

The son of the late Amos Sr. and Geneva Warren Akings, Mr. Akings was born in Union Springs, AL, on January 16, 1942. He was a graduate of Perot High School in Union Springs and was a member of Valley Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Church Administrator and with the Choir. He was a former employee of General Electric Co. and was retired from Boeing Aircraft Inc. following over 25 years of dedicated service. He was a 33-degree Mason- Prince Hall Affiliation, King Solomon Lodge #130. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Wilson.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories include: his wife of 46 years, Mary Armour Akings; a son, Lewis Jones; two grandsons, Kenneth Wilson (Nicole) and Kevin Wilson (Dalisa); two great grandchildren, Taejah and Kai; five brothers, Joseph Akings (Verna), Elba Akings (Ruth), Early Akings (Shirley), Clarence Akings (Mae) and Amos Akings, Jr.; three sisters, Clara Rogers, Olivia Barrett and Alice Powell (Bobby); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Akings will be held Thursday, 11:00 am at Valley Grove Missionary Baptist Church in LaGrange with interment following at Green Acres Cemetery, Columbus. Rev. C. W. Martin, pastor will officiate. The visitation will begin at 9:30 am at the Church the morning of the service. The funeral cortege will depart from the residence at 10:15 Thursday.
