The LaGrange Woman’s Club holds its annual barbecue to benefit the support and maintenance of Bellevue. The barbecue from Hog Heaven will be served in the Bellevue parking lot at 204 Ben Hill St. from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $9 per plate and are available from any club member or by calling Bellevue at 706-884-1832.

Saturday

Norman Winter, director of the Columbus Botanical Garden, hosts an illustrated presentation at 10 a.m. at Hills and Dales Estate on new hot trends and make recommendations on great companion plants. Each attendee will receive one of Norman’s recommended plants. Cost is $30 per person. Workshop space is limited and pre-registration is required. Garden admission is included in registration. The 19th annual Empty Bowl event is at Harris County High School from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, may be purchased at Sweer Home Antiques in Pine Mountain and entitles entrants to a handmade pottery bowl, soup-and-bread dinner, dessert and live entertainment. A silent auction and door prizes will be available. Proceed benefit FOCUS, Fellowship of Christians United in Service, a Harris County organization dedication to assisting residents in financial need. 706-663-7776

The DHA Community Center in Pine Mountain will host a showing of the movie “The Man Left Behind” at 7:30 p.m. The movie chronicles the return of retired U.S. Army Col. Paul R. Longgrear to the former battlefield at Lang Vei, Vietnam, with his wife and three children. Longgrear, a Vietnam veteran, is now a resident of Pine Mountain and will speak at the event. The Troup High Thespians open their spring musical, “Once on this Island,” a calypso-flavored re-telling of “The Little Mermaid,” Sunday at 3 p.m. with additional performances on Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the THS Fine Arts Auditorium. Directed by THS theatre teacher Carol Cain with musical direction by Bettie Biggs and Eve McKibben, the production features 39 Troup High students and Franklin Forest third grader Kylie Wilson in the role of Little Ti Moune.
