The Callaway Cavaliers are trying to win a second straight region championship, and they can take a big step toward achieving that goal with a win over Chapel Hill today.

It’ll be a showdown between two of the Region 4-AAA favorites, and a win would be especially big for Callaway since it would come on Chapel Hill’s home field.

“It’s going to be a big game. It’ll be fun,” Callaway head coach Dusty Hubbard said.

The Cavaliers have played two region games, and they’ve both been blowouts.

After thumping Douglass 18-0 on Friday, Callaway overwhelmed B.E.S.T. Academy 17-0 on Tuesday at home.

It took two days to complete the game.

The teams attempted to play on Monday, but the game was postponed in the first inning because of rain.

On Tuesday under clear skies, the Cavaliers took care of business early with 16 runs in the first inning.

The game ended after the top of the third inning because of the 15-run mercy rule.

When facing an overmatched opponent, Hubbard said he always encourages his players to not let up.

“You change the way you run the bases. Besides that, you don’t change a whole lot,” Hubbard said. “That’s about it.”

Kevin Craft and Josh Alise combined for a no-hitter.

Craft pitched the first two innings and had six strikeouts, and Alise struck out all three batters he faced in the third inning.

B.E.S.T. Academy’s only base runner came in the first inning on a wild pitch on a third strike.

At the plate, the Cavaliers banged out 10 hits in two innings.

Nick O’Berry had two hits, including a triple, and Terry Godwin and C.J. Gallatin also had two hits.

Cortez Leonard and Colby Freeman each had triples, and Hunter Heath had a double.
