Mr. George Beverly Hunt, 95 of LaGrange, GA and formerly of Murfreesboro, TN and Vicksburg, MS died on January 8th, 2013 at Poplar Creek Assisted Living in LaGrange, GA.

Mr. Hunt was born in Raymond, MS on May 11, 1917, the youngest son of William Dallas Hunt and Jessie Stewart Hunt of Vicksburg, MS. Surviving to cherish his memory is his daughter Celeste Hunt Garrett of LaGrange ,formerly of Murfreesboro, TN., grandchildren Douglas Allen Garrett (Amy) of Decherd, TN and Tisha Renee Garrett Cochran (Rick) of Pendergrass, GA. Four great grandchildren, Brett and Anslei Garrett of Decherd, TN and Lauren and Luke Cochran of Pendergrass, GA., nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye Hemby Hunt of LaGrange, Murfreesboro, TN and Vicksburg, his daughter Kristine Faye of Vicksburg, great-granddaughter Bethany Garrett of LaGrange, two brothers William and Ray Hunt of Vicksburg and sister Mary Virginia Temple of Vicksburg. He worked as a Field Accountant, Controller’s Division, Rural Electrification Administration, USDA, Washington, D.C. retiring in 1976. In 1976, he became a consultant for Independent Telephone Companies, State of TN and retired in 1986. Mr. Hunt proudly served his country as a Navy Seabee during WWII, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Tinian, West Pacific. He served with the 112th Naval Construction Battalion Seabees on Tinian Island during the war. He served 5 years active duty and 15 years in Naval Reserve. He was an avid sports fan, playing football and basketball for Carr Central High School, Vicksburg and Mississippi State University, where he graduated in 1940. The family would like to thank the Staff of Poplar Creek for their loving care of George and Faye Hunt during their lifetime at Poplar Creek Assisted Living. Graveside service with full Naval military honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday January 14 at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS.
